The hot tub is wood fired. The water is heated by burning wood. When the fire goes out the water will (very slowly) cool down. We usually heat the water prior to your arrival so the tub is ready to use.
It is a good idea to remove cosmetics and have a shower before using the hot tub. The water will remain clearer if you do.
There are buttons for water jets and bubble jets. The button under a flap will run a circulation pump, do not use this (it will cause the water to cool faster). The jets run for 10 minutes and auto switch off. The power for these jets and the underwater light automatically switches off between midnight and 8am.
You do not need to lift off the lid, it folds in half and can then be slid back on to the timber support in the corner of the wall. Always replace the lid after use, this will help to keep the water clean.
The burner will need to be lit before each use. It will take about an hour to reheat the water. Before lighting the burner check that the water covers all the chrome fittings in the tub.
Firewood, kindling, newspaper and lighters can be found in the Firewood / Laundry shed, opposite the Hayloft cottage.
You will need a strong fire. Make sure the vent slots in the burner door are open. Stack the logs so there is good airflow. Start with about 6 logs, add more once the fire is strong, and when space is available. Monitor the fire every 15 mins. You will probably need a dozen or so logs in total. If your fire is smoking this is a good indication that it is weak. Note that the burner door gets very hot, except the handle.
Keep the burner door shut, except when loading wood. The fire can spit embers, beware.
Stir the water before checking the temperature. This can be done by running the water jets for a few seconds. There is a thermometer on a cord in the tub.
If you reach the desired temperature, but still have a strong fire and you are concerned about the water getting too hot, close the burner air vent slots to weaken the fire.
Let the fire die down before you use the tub.
You use this hot tub at your own risk. We do not provide supervision and may not be around to help in an emergency.
Make sure the floating chlorine dispenser is in the tub (large side up) after use.
Make sure you have no metal buttons, buckles or studs on your swimwear.
We recommend that you do not allow children in the tub. Small bodies overheat faster. Never leave children unattended in the tub. Do not allow children to sit on the side or jump in.
The steps can be slippery, take care getting in and out.
Keep dogs away from the tub.
If you have any ongoing health condition, check whether you may be putting yourself in danger by using the hot tub (see the hot tub section on the website for more info)
The fairylight switch is near the side gate, it's grey with a red light (not the read and yellow switch).
Please rinse out your recycling, we sort this by hand.
The black dustbins are for rubbish, the plastic tubs are for recycling (see the rubbish and recycling section on the website for more info)
There is a small waste food caddy under the kitchen sink, and larger caddies near the dustbins.
There is a streaming TV adapter (ROKU) on the HDMI 1 input of the TV. You can use your own Netflix, Amazon, iPlayer, etc accounts with this device. You will be asked to enter your departure date, this allows the device to automatically log you out so that following guests cannot use your accounts.
The Stable TV is a smart TV and it has Netflix etc built in. If you choose to use these apps, rather than the ROKU device, note that we do not check you have logged out. If you leave your account logged in, the next guest may well use it.
Check out time is 10am.
